Free Senior Living Referrals in Southern California

Personal placement.
Twenty years.
We never sell your information.

Most senior-living directories take your contact info and sell it to dozens of communities. We’re a small Southern California agency that has placed families since 2003 — personally, privately, and at no cost to you.

Your information goes to our team — not a sales floor. We email you back within one business day. No lead-blasts to dozens of communities, no automated call queue.

Why families call us first

Most senior-living websites are directories. You fill in a form, your phone number gets sold to dozens of communities, and the next morning you wake up to a dozen voicemails. Then you spend weeks trying to figure out which ones are even right for your loved one — by yourself.

A Home Away From Home works the opposite way. We’re a small Southern California agency that has placed families since 2003. We personally review every inquiry that comes through this site, narrow the list to the handful of communities that actually fit, and email you back with a short, useful shortlist. Communities pay our fee only when a family chooses one — so families pay nothing.

That’s it. A small team, one short form, no lead-blast.

A small agency, not a directory

We’ve placed Southern California families since 2003 — with deep ties to the Alzheimer’s Association, MAPS L.A., ACT I, Better Living For Seniors, and Providence Saint John’s Medical Center. We’ve personally visited every community we refer.

What families say

I couldn't believe they were so familiar with the Board and Care homes! They helped us very quickly narrow the search.
Karen, Santa Monica
It's nice to know that you and your organization are out there doing such important work.
J.S., Santa Monica
We are deeply indebted to you for helping us find the community. Everything we wanted and hoped for and more.

The questions families ask first

If you've worked with a senior-living directory before, you know the next call is usually a sales pitch. Here's why this is different.

+How is your service free?
There is no charge to families. Like most senior living advisors, we are compensated by the community a family ultimately chooses — only after a move-in. That fee is built into the community's standard pricing, so families pay nothing extra by working with us.
+Will you share my contact information with a long list of communities?
No. Your inquiry goes to our team directly. We read what you sent, learn what you need, and only then introduce you to the communities that fit — and only with your go-ahead. There are no automated lead-blasts and no boiler-room call-backs from dozens of operators.
+How is this different from a large national directory?
Large national directories are paid by communities for every family they pass along, so they're incentivized to send your information to many places at once. We're a small Southern California agency with twenty years of local experience — we read what you submitted, handle the search ourselves, and know the communities personally because we've visited them.
+How quickly will I hear back?
We'll be in touch by email, usually the same business day and almost always within one. If you're in a time-sensitive situation — a recent fall, a hospital discharge, a sudden change in dementia symptoms — mention it in the special-needs field of the quiz and your reply will be prioritized.
+What areas do you serve?
Greater Los Angeles County (Santa Monica, the West Side, the San Fernando and San Gabriel Valleys, the South Bay, Long Beach, and Orange County) plus the Coachella Valley (Palm Springs, Palm Desert, Rancho Mirage, Cathedral City, La Quinta, and Indio). If you're nearby but not listed, ask anyway — we may still be able to help or refer you.
+What is the difference between assisted living and board & care?
Both provide help with daily living, but board & care homes (also called residential care) are small — usually 6 to 10 residents in a regular house in a neighborhood, with a higher caregiver-to-resident ratio. Assisted living communities are larger, with more amenities and programming but lower per-resident attention. We can walk you through which fits.
